Prison sentence for magazine salesman Prison sentence for magazine salesman (August 31, 2005)in Menlo assault case

A sentence of 11 years in state prison was handed down August 25 in San Mateo County Superior Court to D'Angelo Langford, a door-to-door magazine salesman from Georgia convicted of assaulting an 80-year-old Menlo Park woman at her home last October, said Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

In June, Mr. Langford, 19, pleaded no contest to assault with intent to commit rape, and elder abuse with the infliction of great bodily injury.

The victim said she was attacked as she stepped outside her apartment in the 900 block of Alice Lane, and then led to her bedroom and beaten. Her attacker pushed her onto her bed and tried to remove her blouse, she said.

The victim's screams alerted a neighbor who said she saw Mr. Langford and called the police.

Mr. Langford's prison term will likely be about 10 years, given the length of his detention in jail, said Mr. Wagstaffe. -- Bay City News Service
