Woodside to celebrate 'Day of the Horse'
(September 28, 2005) Woodside has always been home to horse lovers. Now it's official. The Woodside-area Horse Owners Association (WHOA) is sponsoring the Day of the Horse to be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 8, in Woodside.
The day, endorsed by the town of Woodside, will include a horse fair at Town Hall that will showcase local horse clubs and riding programs. Visitors will be able to watch a horse being shod, learn what horses eat and how to care for them, and get up close and personal with horses and ponies.
They can also take a ride in the Wells Fargo stagecoach. Kids may have their picture taken with a pony, decorate cookies, bob for apples and enter an art contest.
The Woodside Museum will feature a new exhibit showing the role of the horse in Woodside history.
A progressive trail ride will include goodie bags, food and prizes, followed by a blessing of the horses. All events are free and open to the public.
WHOA was organized in 1998 to encourage awareness and appreciation of horses and to celebrate Woodside's rich equestrian heritage. Donna Poy and Fentress Hall are co-chairs of Day of the Horse.
