Students sponsor film benefit
(October 12, 2005) Corte Madera School eighth-graders will roll out the red carpet Friday, October 14, for a premiere of the film, "The Californians," in Spangenberg Theatre at Palo Alto's Gunn High School.
Students in the school's leadership class came up with the idea to benefit the nonprofit Trust in Education, which provides education and economic opportunities for villagers in Lalander, Afghanistan. Budd Mackenzie, founder of the trust, is an uncle of several children at Corte Madera.
The film, a romantic comedy starring Noah Wyle, Kate Mara and Illeana Douglas, was produced by the Marin County-based Parker Film Co. and will be released next month. It's a love story set along the California coast, pitting an environmentalist against a wealthy developer.
Director-producer Jonathan Parker and writer-director Catherine Di Napoli plan to come to the showing to answer questions and talk about making the movie.
The box office opens at 6 p.m. and the film will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday. Tickets at $25 per person (includes popcorn and soda) may be purchased at the Corte Madera School office, 4575 Alpine Road in Portola Valley; by calling Aaron Ebert at 851-4545; or e-mailing tennismenace@1392@yahoo.com. Those who buy before October 13 receive a goody bag. For more information, check pvsd.net or trustineducation.org.
