County probes creek spill from Anderson Chevrolet
(October 12, 2005) People who know anything about the spill of some off-mustard-colored, possibly hazardous, liquid into a storm drain at the former Anderson Chevrolet site in Menlo Park a couple of weeks ago are asked to contact the San Mateo County District Attorney's office.
The unidentified liquid was first spotted pooling in San Francisquito Creek under the bicycle bridge about two weeks ago and was reported to San Mateo County.
"It was dripping out of a storm drain under the bike bridge," said Tom Paulin, an investigator for the Consumer and Environmental Unit of the district attorney's office. "We traced it back to Anderson's. It looks like the same stuff."
The material was sent to a laboratory to find out what it is, Mr. Paulin said.
Mr. Paulin has been trying to find out how the spill occurred at Anderson Chevrolet in the confusion of its closing.
"It could be a criminal or a civil case," he said. "We are trying to identify the person responsible, and get the information before the attorneys who will decide."
Those with information are asked to call Mr. Paulin at 363-4810.
