The women's team from Portola Valley, representing the Northern California section, captured the national title at the USA League Tennis 5.0 adult national championships held at the Riviera Resort & Racquet Club in Palm Springs on September 25.

Portola Valley defeated a team from Columbus, Ohio, 3-0 in the championship match.

Earlier in the day, Portola Valley defeated a team from Memphis, Tennessee, 2-1, in the semi-finals.

Michelle Ahlstrom is captain of the team. Her teammates are Leslie Airola-Murveit, Shelly Sweeney, Anne Kerwin-Payne, Susan Knox, Tanya Gacs, Leslie O'Keefe and Lee Safran.

Twenty-eight teams from throughout the United States took part in the championships.
