Atherton barbecue celebrates park foundation, Dames
(October 19, 2005) A "China Camp" themed town barbecue is scheduled for Sunday, October 23, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Atherton's Holbrook-Palmer Park.
Hosted by the Holbrook-Palmer Park Foundation and the Atherton Dames, the event celebrates the 40th anniversary of the fundraising foundation that helped turn the former estate into a municipal park.
Foundation members have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the park over the years, said Atherton Councilman Charles Marsala.
Past projects include the restoration of the carriage house, the construction of the pavilion and landscaping of the North Meadow, he said.
Besides making physical improvements to the park, the group has fostered a sense of community in Atherton by hosting receptions for new residents, annual town picnics, and town anniversary parties, Mr. Marsala said.
The "China Camp barbecue" is to be catered by Chef Chu and features a no-host bar.
Tickets are $27 for adults, $10 for children between the ages of 10 and 6, and $6 for children under the age of 6.
Reservations are required by October 20, and can be made by calling Pattie at 752-0536 or by sending a check to HPPF/Atherthon Dames, 150 Watkins Ave., Atherton, CA 94027.
