Memorial ride planned for Michelle Mazzei
(October 19, 2005) A bike ride remembering Michelle Mazzei will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday, October 23, on a car-free section of Canada Road in Woodside.
Ms. Mazzei, fourth-grade teacher at Oak Knoll School in Menlo Park, was struck and killed October 2 when a driver drifted out of his lane on Woodside Road near the entrance to Interstate Highway 280.
Riders will gather at the intersection of Canada Road and Edgewood Road, then go west on Edgewood to Canada. The ride will proceed north on Canada Road 1.5 miles to the Pulgas Water Temple for a short ceremony.
For those cycling to the gathering, rides are being organized. Menlo Park cyclists should gather at Burgess Park on Alma Street at 9:30 a.m.
A do-it-yourself picnic will be held after the ride at Edgewood Park. The entrance to the parking lot is on Edgewood Road about 1.5 miles east of the Edgewood/I-280 intersection. Those interested in a longer ride will gather after the ceremony to follow one of Ms. Mazzei's favorite routes. Route sheets will be provided.
The Michelle Mazzei Fund for Environmental Education has been established by Environmental Volunteers to honor Ms. Mazzei. Donations may be sent to Environmental Volunteers, 3921 E. Bayshore Road, Palo Alto, CA 94303 and will also be collected at the ride. For information, call Dani Weber 341-7741.
