Around Town: Junior League holds holiday boutique
(November 09, 2005) The holiday shopping season gets off to an early start with the Junior League Palo Alto/Mid Peninsula holiday boutique slated for Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19, at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Palo Alto.
The first holiday boutique started 13 years ago when a group of League members, led by Melissa Badger of Atherton, launched the fundraiser in a tent at Holbrook-Palmer Park. Today "The Spirit of Giving" boutique is one of the League's major events, attracting more than 150 merchants and thousands of shoppers.
There are several new events this year. A luncheon, sponsored by Harold's women's clothing store at Stanford Shopping Center, will be held, with seatings at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, November 18. League members will model clothing from Harold's. Tickets are $75 each.
Tiffany & Co. is hosting a cocktail party from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday evening. Tiffany blue martinis, wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Tickets are $75.
Pulitzer's Private Island, from 10 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, November 19, will include a tropical brunch and trunk show of Lilly Pulitzer's Private Island collection. Cost is $75.
A Teddy Bear Tea with Lisa's Tea Treasures will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $40 for adults and $15 for children.
Sarah Lammersen and Jan Woolsey are co-chairmen of the holiday boutique, which has raised more than $600,000 since its inception in 1993. This year's goal is to raise $473,000.
The holiday boutique is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19. Admission is $5 or two cans of food to be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
