Cyclist found dead on Skyline Blvd.
(November 16, 2005) The county coroner is investigating the cause of death of a bicyclist found lying along the eastern edge of Skyline Boulevard near the Thomas Fogarty Winery around 3:40 p.m. Sunday, November 13.
Clay Mankin, 49, of Berkeley was wearing a bicycle helmet and was briefly conscious when he was found, said Officer Christian Oliver of the Redwood City office of the California Highway Patrol.
He was pronounced dead at about 4:15 p.m. Mr. Mankin appeared to have died from natural causes, perhaps a heart attack, said Mr. Oliver.
Mr. Mankin was chief executive officer of City Cycle, a San Francisco shop that sells handmade bicycles, said the shop's manager Craig Foose. Mr. Mankin had been riding solo and was preparing for a 50th birthday ride on November 22, said Mr. Foose.
