Woodside High foundation grants $26,000 Woodside High foundation grants $26,000 (November 23, 2005)

Grants for items ranging from textbooks to a computer for disabled students, totaling $26,616, were approved by the board of the Woodside High School Foundation at its November meeting.

The foundation takes funding requests from Woodside High teachers and staff three times a year.

This round of funding included, for the drama department, $1,816 for furniture; for the library, $500 for books; for the English department, $1,360 for textbooks, $1,000 for entry-level reading books, $600 for workbooks, $1,170 for a camcorder and $560 for cassette players for reading classes; for the math department, $1,500 for calculators and an overhead projector, and $5,200 for LCD projectors; for the science department, $1,130 for physics demonstration equipment, $3,430 for audiovisual equipment and $2,200 for chemistry textbooks; for the social studies department, $2,750 for classroom textbooks so students can leave their texts at home; and $3,400 for a computer workstation for disabled students.

Funds for the drama and science departments were raised at the foundation's auction in April.

The board put several requests on hold for further research, including a project to build a $100,000 fitness center for students.
