Docents will be dressed in Victorian costumes for the annual Benjamin Lathrop House holiday open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 11.

A pianist will play Christmas carols on the antique square grand piano, and spiced apple drinks and cookies will be served. Each room in the historic house will be decorated with a Christmas tree.

The donation at the door is $3. Children will be admitted free. Benjamin Lathrop House is located at 627 Hamilton St. in Redwood City.
Christmas fair in Ladera

Santa Claus will make his annual visit to the Ladera Country Shopper from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, December 10.

Santa will hold court at the Konditorei, where Susan Thomas will take photos of Santa and kids. Children will be able to decorate cookies at the Ladera Deli and make candy cane reindeers at New Bamboo.

There will be an Astro Jump at the Ladera Auto Works. Bianchini's will serve "Matt's famous eggnog."

Ladera Country Shopper is located at 300 Alpine Road in Portola Valley.

Al Jacobs is back for holiday program

Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory" are on the program for Al Jacobs' traditional holiday presentation on Tuesday, December 13, at the Menlo Park Library.

The free event is from 7 to 8:15 p.m.

Mr. Jacobs, a professor emeritus of Menlo College, has for a number of years drawn large and appreciative audiences to the library for his annual holiday presentations. A Menlo Park resident and a graduate of Harvard College and UC Berkeley, Mr. Jacobs has a rich background in theater and literature.

The program is sponsored by the Menlo Park Book Discussion Group. The library is at 800 Alma St.

Boys chorus performs at St. Bede's church

The Ragazzi Boys Chorus will present a holiday concert, "An American Christmas," at 5 p.m. Sunday, December 11, at St. Bede's Episcopal Church, 2650 Sand Hill Road in Menlo Park.

The concert will include compositions by William Billings, Charles Ives and Randall Thompson, in addition to classic carols such as "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "Joy to the World."

Ragazzi will also release its latest CD, "Magnificat, My Spirit Rejoices," on December 10. Joyce Keil is the artistic director and co-founder of Ragazzi.

Founded in 1987, the chorus has more than 130 singers, ages 7 to 18. Ragazzi means kids in Italian and the term in used in Italian opera to designate children's voices.

Aurora Singers at Little House

The Aurora Singers will present a holiday concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 10, in the auditorium of Little House, 800 Middle Ave. in Menlo Park. This is the 17th year the chorus of 60 voices has been performing.

Admission is $5. The concert benefits Little House arts programs. Refreshments will be served. For information, call 325-2025.
Menlo firefighters hold toy, food drive

Contributions to the Menlo Park Firefighters Association's toy and food drive may be dropped off at the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce, 1100 Merrill St. in Menlo Park.

New unwrapped toys, non-perishable food, and cash donations are welcome. Checks should be made out the to the Menlo Park Firefighters Association.

Junior League holds a holiday sale

The Junior League of Palo Alto/Mid Peninsula will hold a holiday sale Friday and Saturday, December 16-17, at The Shop, 785 Santa Cruz Ave. in Menlo Park. The resale shop is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

"The Shop is the ideal place for holiday outfits, shoes and accessories at bargain-basement prices," says The Shop chairman Kyla Eller.

Since its opening in 1970, The Shop has contributed $2.6 million to the Junior League's general fund.
