News briefs: Atherton city manager gets pay raise
(December 07, 2005) The Atherton City Council approved a raise and new administrative leave benefits for City Manager Jim Robinson recently. Combined, they amount to a 6 percent pay boost.
Mr. Robinson's annual salary will increase by more than $6,600 per year, from $156,301 to $162,943.68. His new compensation agreement also includes 40 hours a year of paid administrative leave time.
The council voted to approve the pay raise, which is retroactive to July 1 of this year, at the November 16 council meeting.
County manager to stay until 2009
San Mateo County Manager John Maltbie will keep his job until March 31, 2009, if he serves out his new contract.
That would make a full 20 years in the post.
Following more than a year of uncertainty about when Mr. Maltbie would retire, the Board of Supervisors extended his contract on November 15. He first announced his retirement in 2004 for March 2005, and then delayed it.
Mr. Maltbie came to his post in 1989 from a position as assistant county manager of Santa Clara County.
Now, he supervises a county with a budget of $1.3 billion and a workforce of more than 5,000. His salary is now approximately $230,000 a year.
