School Notes: Focus on enrollment boost for Menlo Park schools School Notes: Focus on enrollment boost for Menlo Park schools (December 07, 2005)

A special community meeting to solicit input about options to cope with the Menlo Park City School District's projected increases in enrollment will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 8, in the library at Hillview Middle School.

Presentations will include reasons for enrollment growth, possible configurations of the district's four schools to equalize enrollment, and an overview of the need for expanded operations.

Preliminary conceptual architectural designs will be shown to illustrate potential development of the four campuses: Laurel, Encinal, Oak Knoll and Hillview Middle schools.

Hillview is located at 1100 Elder Ave. in Menlo Park. For information, call the district office at 321-7140 or check mpcsd.org.
PV board: Trustee change; traffic study

Portola Valley School District will say farewell to Trustee Deborah Rappaport and welcome new board member Donald Collat at its annual organizational meeting on Wednesday, December 7.

This meeting starts at 6 p.m. -- earlier than usual -- in the board meeting room (1001) at Corte Madera School, 4575 Alpine Road in Portola Valley. The board's regular meeting will be held in the same location after the organizational meeting is adjourned.

On the agenda of the regular meeting is an update on preliminary discussions of Windmill Preschool's proposal to move its program to Ormondale School at 200 Shawnee Pass.

A traffic study, prepared for Windmill School by Traffic Data Service of Campbell, reports the Windmill operation "would have absolutely NO effect on the peak traffic periods of Ormondale School."

The schools have different hours of operation, and Windmill has fewer students than Ormondale.

Traffic at Ormondale School peaks in the morning from 8:15 to 8:30 with a total of 163 trips entering and exiting the school, according to the report. The Windmill campus trips peak for the day from 4 to 4:15 p.m. with 13 trips.

Assistant Superintendent Tim Hanretty will report on the traffic study at the meeting. Representatives from Windmill and the district will report on the preliminary discussions during the past six months.
