The Menlo-Atherton girls' basketball team rebounded from a tough home loss to Sequoia by routing Woodside on the road, 71-38, on January 20.

The game was never really in doubt as M-A employed a balanced attack that secured a 32-10 halftime lead. The Bears continued their crisp passing and superior rebounding in the second half, and Woodside could get no closer than 43-27 en route to their most embarrassing loss this season.

Shakara Haynes was the only Wildcat to show any punch, showing major progress and potential in scoring a career-high 17 points.

M-A was led by junior Christina Dixon, who scored 17, and freshman Linda Pita, who added a career-high 15. Three other players scored at least eight for M-A, which improved to 15-4 (3-1) and is tied for first in the PAL South Division. Woodside, meanwhile, fell to 5-7 (1-3), and fifth place.

M-A faltered a bit last week, losing their first game of the regular season to Sequoia, 38-34. Dixon scored 12 points for the Bears and Erica Hayes added eight, but the team was stifled by Sequoia's tough defense.

In their other game last week, Woodside finally won, beating Half Moon Bay at home, 36-29. Diana Ramies had a season-high 10 points for the Wildcats, who also got nine points from Latisha Wilson.

Woodside's games this week: January 25 at 4:45 vs. Menlo; January 27 at 6:15 vs. Sequoia.

M-A's games this week: January 25 at 4:45 at Carlmont; January 27 at 6:15 at Menlo (this game will be broadcast on KCEA radio, 89.1 FM).
