Civil rights the topic at storytelling event
(February 01, 2006) "Civil Rights Tales," a collection of stories and songs about the civil rights movement presented by people who lived through those times, will be performed at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, in the Menlo Park City Council Chambers.
The Stagebridge theater troupe will present the free program, sponsored by the Menlo Park Library. The Oakland-based theater group is made up of actors and storytellers ranging in age from 50 to 95.
The Saturday performance will trace the struggle for racial justice from the 1960s, exploring the legacy of the civil rights movement and opening a dialogue about the road that lies ahead.
Free van service to the event is available for Menlo Park senior citizens and people with disabilities. For more information or to schedule transportation, call 330-2512, or contact outreach librarian Roberta Roth at rlroth@menlopark.org.
The council chambers are in the Menlo Park Civic Center, at Laurel Street and Ravenswood Avenue.
