Menlo Park prepares for labor negotiations Menlo Park prepares for labor negotiations (February 08, 2006)

With four collective bargaining agreements expiring this year, the Menlo Park City Council has a year full of labor negotiations ahead.

The council will meet in closed session February 14 to "outline the game plan" for negotiations, according to City Manager David Boesch.

Mr. Boesch, City Attorney Bill McClure and Personnel Director Glen Kramer will join the council in the meeting.

Contracts with the Police Officers Association and Police Management Association are up for negotiation June 30, said Mr. Boesch.

Contracts with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, and the Service Employees International Union are up in November, he said.

Mr. Boesch said he expects negotiations will begin "about two or three months preceding the end of existing contracts."

He added that the main purpose of the closed session meeting is to "outline the negotiation approach" to council members Kelly Fergusson and Andy Cohen, who haven't participated in the process before.
