Jim Lewis submitted this photo, taken by Todd Temple of Menlo Park. Mr. Lewis said an accident Monday at the corner of Santa Cruz Avenue and University Drive in downtown Menlo Park caused a fire hydrant to be hit and resulted in this huge gusher.

"The fire hydrant is located across the street from Peet's Coffee, on the southwest side of the street, on the corner where Fremont Park is located," said Mr. Lewis said in an e-mail. "Fresh bolts are on the fire hydrant, along with a new safety chain. Fremont Park no doubt got a nice drink of water, particularly the beautiful lawn area."

Jim Lewis is right! This was a huge, and I mean huge explosion of water. The park has greatly benefited and so did Peet's! Thanks Todd Temple for the great shot!

Thanks Peet's Coffee Drinker. I saw many people taking shots on their phones. It would be interesting to see more shots. Here is a link to some video of the event.

It would have been interesting to see video and photos of this same hydrant before last year's upgrade to the pipeline in University Drive. We replaced a 6" cast iron pipe with a new 12" pipeline that is connected to our transmission grid.
