Wednesday: Rail authority to hold 'open house'

The agency charged with designing the California high-speed rail project will hold a set of "open house" meetings in late September and early October, giving Peninsula residents a glimpse into the planning process now under way.

At the meetings, the High Speed Rail Authority will "share and discuss" initial plans for how high-speed trains will shoot up the Caltrain corridor, the authority said in a press release.

The meeting for San Mateo County residents will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30, in San Carlos. It is scheduled to run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the SamTrans Auditorium at 1250 San Carlos Ave., just off El Camino Real.

I hear that Washington State, Canada and Oregon are already way ahead of the "open house" stage and a lot more politically involved than Californians in the HSR dept.
Our best example is the repair of the Bay Bridge which began before flat screen plasma/LCD TV was in everyone's homes.

Perhaps the high speed rail folks can explain why their many predicted San Francisco patrons can't cross a platform to connect with upgraded Caltrains at San Jose's Diridon station like they do in NY. This would avoid destroying valuable residential and business property in Atherton, Menlo Park and Palo Alto. There is room for a third track for express train passing within the existing ROW st current grade, accommodating grade separation without a great wall of China splitting our towns. It would increase rather than decrease caltrain ridership.
Wouldn't this be a win win result? Of course, developers who are salivating at the opportunity to profit from the property wreckage created by the current plan would have to look elsewhere.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
