Saturday: 'Story of Courage in Holocaust'

Author Marty Brounstein will discuss his book, "Two Among the Righteous Few: A Story of Courage in the Holocaust," at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Menlo Park City Council Chambers, 701 Laurel St. in Menlo Park.

The book tells the story of Frans and Mien Wijnakker, a Catholic couple who saved the lives of at least two dozen Jews living in southern Holland during the Holocaust and World War II. An author, speaker and management consultant, Mr. Bronstein is married to one of those saved by the Wijnakkers.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing after the talk. Refreshments will be served. No reservations are required for the free program supported by Friends of the Menlo Park Library.

Free van service to the program is available for local seniors and those with disabilities. For transportation, call 330-2512.

I assume the names of the Dutch people should be Frans and Mien Wijnakkers. Please check and correct if necessary.

Sybille, Thanks for the correction. It's fixed. (My research shows that the surname doesn't end in "s".)

Come hear an engaging presentation by Marty Brounstein, author of "Two Among the Righteous Few: A Story of Courage in the Holocaust." It is a remarkable, true story of courage and interfaith compassion, courage and rescue involving a Christian couple in the Netherlands who saved the lives of at least two dozen Jews during World War II and the Holocaust.
This story has a meaningful personal connection...Marty will explain when you come.
Thursday, May 17, 7 p.m. Kepler's Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park. Free. (650) 324-4321.

Mr. Brounstein, may I prevail upon you to remind us all of this again, closer to the date? I post a lot of local events on my Facebook page, but I've found if I do it too soon, people forget about it. It sounds wonderful- I'd love to attend!

Don't miss out on the discussion!
