Police hail Menlo Park woman's actions to catch suspect

Shop employee's alertness led to apprehension of burglary suspect

By Eric Van Susteren

Menlo Park Police recognized a woman on Tuesday, April 24, for helping to catch a thief in February.

Kathy Barron, an employee of Village Stationers in Menlo Park, confronted a man who matched the description of someone who had burglarized the store last November. The man was attempting to steal a large sum of money from the store, police stated.

After Ms. Barron confronted the suspect, the man quickly left the store. She followed him and began yelling for people to call the police.

She followed him to the intersection of El Camino Real and Menlo Avenue, where she spotted a police car and flagged it down.

Police detained and ultimately took the suspect into custody. The money was recovered.

We sure could have used Kathy Barron's ever so vigilant eyes on that dark and sinister night last October when Mr. Bernstein's campaign sign for Virgina Chang Kiraly was vandalized.
