A 24-year-old man arrested following a shooting in Menlo Park pleaded not guilty in court on Dec. 11.
Truckee resident Geoffrey Clark Smith was arrested on Dec. 9 in connection with the firing of several gunshots at a home in the 1300 block of Windermere Avenue, according to the police report.
The bullets left no one injured, but the shooting allegedly followed fisticuffs. The San Mateo County district attorney's office said that Mr. Smith, irate over the failure of a friend to return a jacket given as collateral for a $50 loan, pummeled the victim after taking a swing with a pair of crutches.
Police said they received a report of the gunshots at 1:29 a.m. Officers found a 1992 gold Subaru fleeing the scene, and based on a description of the suspect and the car, arrested the driver, Mr. Smith. A .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun was found in the vehicle, according to the district attorney.
