As part of their senior project at Woodside Priory School, Clara Johnson and Stephanie Brugger are hosting the screening of the film, "Tapestries of Hope," a documentary on young rape survivors in Zimbabwe, directed by Michealene Cristini Risley of Woodside.
The screening and discussion will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, in the performing arts center at Woodside Priory, 302 Portola Road in Portola Valley.
The two senior girls say they are passionate about ending the oppression and violence against women because they have traveled and seen first-hand this abuse. Last summer, Clara traveled to Costa Rica to work with sex-traffic victims, and Stephanie traveled to northern India, learning about the social and economic disadvantages that girls face there.
Admission is $5 for students and $8 for adults.
Any donations made at the screening, and any proceeds from the sale of food or bracelets, will go to the safe house Clara visited in Costa Rica, Stephanie said in an email.
