Author and futurist Alex Pang will discuss and sign his new book, "The Distraction Addiction," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Kepler's bookstore, 1010 El Camino Real in Menlo Park. Admission is free.
Subtitled "Getting the Information You Need and the Communication You Want, Without Enraging Your Family, Annoying Your Colleagues, and Destroying Your Soul," the book was written "for people who live with technology -- for people who may love technology, but people who have a dysfunctional relationship with it," according to Mr. Pang, a Menlo Park resident and visiting scholar at Stanford and Oxford universities.
The book addresses a key question of our age: Is it possible to live the connected life -- with our smartphones and laptops, and the flood of instant texting and email messages -- without diminishing our attention spans, our ability to focus, and our overall quality of life?
