Thousands of volunteers are expected to participate in the 29th annual coastal cleanup day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 21.
The event will take place at more than 800 locations around the state. Last year about 65,000 volunteers removed almost 770,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from California beaches, lakes and waterways, according to the California Coastal Commission.
The city of Menlo Park is asking for volunteers to help clean up at the following locations: San Francisquito Creek at Alma Street and East Creek Drive (contact Susan Stansbury at 330-6720); and Bedwell Bayfront Park at the edge of San Francisco Bay at U.S. 101 and Marsh Road (contact Davena Gentry at 475-2012).
