Saturday: Cleanup day in Portola Valley

A neighborhood cleanup day for Portola Valley residents is set for Saturday morning, Oct. 3, at at the Town Center at 765 Portola Road. This free service is available from 8 to 11 a.m. to residents who bring a copy of their garbage bill as proof of residence.

What to bring:

■ Goodwill Inc. will be there to accept computers and electronic equipment, clothing and accessories, furniture, art works, bedding and bath linens, lights, cooking equipment, books, movies and music.

For more on these items and all acceptable and unacceptable items for this event, go to this link.

■ The town's garbage service, GreenWaste, will be on hand to take items not suitable for Goodwill, including carpets, large appliances that do not use refrigerants, and limited amounts of rocks, asphalt, construction debris and scrap metal.

■ The event will include an authorized collection point for prescription and over-the-counter medicines that are out of date or no longer needed. Proper disposal of these drugs prevents them from being taken in by creatures for which they were not intended.
