Roadway reopens after four rescued from car down an embankment

Both directions of state Highway 92/state Highway 35 in San Mateo County reopened Thursday morning after four occupants were rescued from a car that went over an embankment just east of Half Moon Bay, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Fire personnel responded to the scene, where a black sedan reportedly traveled 500 to 600 feet off the roadway and down an embankment, the CHP said.

The incident was reported at 12:34 a.m. on State Highway 92/state Highway 35 between Skyline Boulevard and Old Canada Road near the San Francisco State Fish and Game Refuge, the CHP said.

Emergency crews rescued three of the vehicle's occupants from the crash and one person managed to climb up the embankment to the roadway before the CHP arrived, according to a CHP officer.

The four occupants of the vehicle were transported to area hospitals and the extent of their injuries has not yet been released, according to the CHP.

A Sigalert was issued at about 1 a.m. and was canceled when the roadway reopened at about 4:35 a.m., according to the CHP. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
