With a few memorable exceptions, the selection of a new mayor in Menlo Park proceeds with about as much drama as a PBS special on woodworking. Tonight's meeting should be no exception.
Currently Peter Ohtaki serves as mayor, with Ray Mueller as vice mayor. Council policy is to rotate the position of mayor, with preference going to members who have not yet held the title, which in this case puts Mr. Mueller and Cat Carlton, both finishing up their first year on the council, at the top of the list. After voting, the council members will then nominate and vote on a vice mayor.
Tonight's meeting starts at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Civic Center at 701 Laurel St., followed by a reception and light refreshments.
