Zuckerberg donates Facebook shares to local nonprofit

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, donated 18 million shares of the social media company to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation in December. Facebook stock is currently trading at around $53 a share on NASDAQ, making the donation a nearly billion-dollar gift to the local nonprofit.

Foundation representatives declined to comment on how the donation will be used. The nonprofit provides funding, grants and financial management for other organizations, including Peninsula Arts & Letters, the new nonprofit events arm of Kepler's Books.
