Tonight: Woodside School devotes program to 'design thinking'

What is design thinking? Parents, students and interested community members can find out at Woodside Elementary School's first Collaborative Design Thinking Project on Thursday, May 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Sellman Auditorium on campus.

Projects for the evening include:

● Sculpting paper into a virtual galaxy. Woodside Superintendent Beth Polito said every student in the school will make a planet or star out of a sheet of blank white paper that will be fed through a 3-D printer to make the virtual galaxy.

● A human/machine collaboration to find out what happens when humans and machines create together.

● Creation of a story out of all participants' answers to the same question.

Participants will learn what "solution-based" thinking is and how design thinking can improve learning and the experience of technology.

The event is sponsored by the WES Design Thinking Task Force, Dominika Nell Applova, Jeff Linnell and the Institute of Design at Stanford, known as the d.school.
