Atherton: Fourth candidate joins council race

Get ready for campaigning in Atherton – as of July 30, there are four official candidates for three City Council seats. Michael Lempres filed his nomination papers and has been qualified for the Nov. 4 ballot.

Mr. Lempres is an attorney and a member of the town's Transportation Committee and its Rail Committee.

The other candidates are Bill Widmer and Rick DeGolia, both incumbents, and Rose Hau, an architect who is vice chair of the Civic Center Advisory Committee.

Mr. Widmer is completing his first four-year term. Mr. DeGolia was elected to a one-year term last year to fill the seat left vacant when Jerry Carlson resigned because he was moving from Atherton.

The council now has only four members. Jim Dobbie, whose term was to expire in November, resigned earlier this year due to poor health, and his unfilled seat is one of the three that voters will fill this fall. Mr. Dobbie passed away on July 24.

The deadline for filing is Friday, Aug. 8.
