Sophomore Danielle McCarthy scored a goal and recorded a pair of assists as the Menlo College women's soccer team kicked off the season with a 3-1 victory over visiting Warner Pacific on Wednesday.
Junior Jocelyn Aguilar and freshman Maddie Napier also scored for the Lady Oaks, who look to build on last year's 11-5-1 record.
McCarthy, who led the team with eight goals last year, has already matched her assist total from last year.
Napier scored about 30 minutes into the game to give the Lady Oaks a lead they never relinquished.
Aguilar, who tied for the team lead in points (18) with seven goals and four assists last year, scored 10 minutes into the second half for a 2-0 Menlo advantage. Victoria Piazza also received credit for an assist on the play.
The Knights cut into Menlo's lead in the 61st minute but McCarthy scored seven minutes later, on an assist from junior transfer Brittany Squarcia.
Menlo senior goalie Jasmine Cordova recorded five of her six saves in the second half as the Knights outshot the Lady Oaks, 12-5, in the second half and 15-11 overall. Menlo had the advantage in shots on goal, 8-7.
The Lady Oaks host The Master's College next Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
The Menlo men's soccer team opens against Corban on Saturday in Redding.
The Lady Oaks volleyball team hosts West Coast Baptist at 7 p.m. Friday.
