Woodside’s Steve Brown and his film production and distribution company are involved in a new 90-minute documentary that will be shown in a local theater on Friday, Aug. 7.
The documentary, called “Twinsters,” traces the story of identical twin girls who were separated at the time of their birth through adoption and who discovered each other via social media 25 years later.
The documentary is being shown on the big screen in 50 cities across the country, including at Cinemark Redwood Downtown 20 and XD, where there will be five screenings on Friday, Aug. 7. The theater is at 825 Middlefield Road in Redwood City.
Mr. Brown’s company, Ignite Channel, has been involved in film production and distribution since the release of the documentary, “Spark: A Burning Man Story,” in 2013.
The twin girls were born in South Korea and adopted in the U.S. and France.
Thanks to YouTube, an online movie trailer, Facebook and Skype, sisters Anais Bordier and Samantha Futerman were reunited. The documentary tracks their story, from having no idea of each other’s existence to being in touch every day.
The documentary debuted in March at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas, where it won an award for editing, and went on to earn grand jury prize for best documentary at the L.A. Asian Pacific Film Festival.
Since then, said Mr. Brown, “We convinced major theaters … to take a chance on this independent film. Its ability to stay in theaters depends entirely on people spreading the word.”
