Truck that struck wires caused power outage
|
A truck that hit low-hanging wires appears to have been the cause of a power outage that affected more than 1,700 customers in Portola Valley on Monday (April 9).
PG&E spokesman Joe Molica said that a preliminary investigation at Los Trancos Road and Alpine Road revealed that just before 7 a.m., a passing truck hit wires hanging above the roadway, which caused an electrical surge and a subsequent outage.
All but 355 customers had their power back in service by 8:40 a.m., Molica said. Service was restored to all customers by 12:20 p.m.
Los Trancos Road was closed to traffic for about eight hours while the electrical hazard was abated.— Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by los trancos resident, a resident of the Portola Valley: Los Trancos Woods/Vista Verde neighborhood, on Apr 11, 2012 at 12:08 pm I don't believe this is what caused the outage. I was the one who called 911 and it was an exploding box at the top of the pole that was on fire and shooting out blue flames. There were not any low hanging wires at all until the fire burned them down. I saw it!!!
I certainly hope PGE investigates this further.
