Digital gear stolen at Sacred Heart Schools

Someone stole six Apple iPads and five cell phones Tuesday, May 1, from unlocked lockers in the boys locker room at Sacred Heart Preparatory High School on Valparaiso Avenue in Atherton, police said.
The estimated loses are $5,720, said Lt. Joe Wade of the Atherton Police Department.
Five of the iPads belonged to the school, with all the other items belonging to students, Lt. Wade said.

Posted by iPad skeptic, a resident of the Atherton: other neighborhood, on May 4, 2012 at 6:01 pm In my experience in schools, apple devices go from handy devices to hundred dollar bills. At Hillview school when iPods were big, they were stolen and sold as often as anything else, an apple, a bag of chips, a box of pencils. While iPods were great tools for listening to music, they had no place in a school environment.
Same goes for apples new device, the iPad.
They aren't significantly easier to do computer work on, and they can realistically do about 50% of what a normal computer can do. So even if it's easier to surf the web, your time typing slows down the whole operation by a several fold.
In conclusion, there's nothing you can do on the iPad that you can't do on a regular computer, except maybe surf the web while on the toilet, so why spend an extra 500 odd dollars on a device that's 60% easier to steal and conceal?
