Zuckerberg weds longtime girlfriend Saturday
First a highly anticipated IPO, then marriage
|
Trading his hoodie for a dark suit and tie, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg married his longtime girlfriend, Priscilla Chan, at their Palo Alto home on Saturday, May 19.
If well wishes are any sign of the future health of a marriage, Zuckerberg and Chan are off to an auspicious start: 775,000 people -- and counting -- "Liked" Zuckerberg's post as of Sunday morning.
It was a life-changing week for the couple. In addition to turning 28 on Monday, the Facebook CEO on Friday took his 8-year-old company, founded in a Harvard University dorm room, public in an IPO that valued the social-media giant at more than $100 billion. Meanwhile, Chan graduated Monday with her medical degree from University of California, San Francisco.
According to the Associated Press, the couple kept their impending nuptials a secret -- even from the 100 guests they'd invited. Believing they were attending a graduation party for Chan, guests were surprised to learn they were actually at Chan and Zuckerberg's wedding, an unnamed guest told the AP.
Zuckerberg designed the ruby wedding ring he gave Chan, the guest said.
Photos of the couple show Zuckerberg in a trim dark blue suit and white shirt holding hands with Chan, who wore a sleeveless white gown and veil.
The couple met at Harvard, from which Chan graduated with a degree in biology in 2007. She taught science to fourth- and fifth-graders at the Harker School in San Jose the following year, according to her Facebook page. — Palo Alto Weekly staff Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition?
