Man killed by train in Mountain View
Southbound train strikes pedestrian near San Antonion station
|
A man was struck and killed by a southbound train in Mountain View this morning, according to a Caltrain spokeswoman.
The man was hit around 9:45 a.m. by Caltrain No. 332 near the San Antonio station, Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said. The Baby Bullet express train was not scheduled to stop at the station, she said.
There were 207 passengers on the train.
The San Mateo County Transit Police is handling the investigation. The cause of the fatality has yet to be determined, Bartholomew said. Following a complete investigation, the Santa Clara County Coroner will make the official determination of the cause of death.
As of 11:30 a.m., trains were still single-tracking through the area and there were delays of up to 45 minutes.
There have been nine fatalities on the Caltrain right-of-way this year. Last year there were 16.
