Bike route closes for 18 days, except Sundays
|
The stretch of Crystal Springs Road that connects Polhemus Road and Skyline Boulevard in San Mateo closed to all vehicle traffic on Monday, June 11, and will remain closed through Friday, June 29, a statement from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission said.
One exception is bicyclists, who will be let through on Sundays, but are advised the road may be covered in places by steel plates.
As part of a $4.6 billion project to improve the Hetch Hetchy drinking water supply system, the SFPUC is replacing a large water pipe. Large trucks will be navigating a narrow and winding road, "making it unsafe for private vehicles, bicycles and joggers," the SFPUC said in a statement.

Posted by Sawyer Camp Trail user, a resident of the Menlo Park: Downtown neighborhood, on Jun 12, 2012 at 10:32 pm Crystal Springs Road is the main access road for people bicycling or jogging to the Sawyer Camp Trail. Cars can take I-280 instead, but closing Crystal Springs Road is a huge blow to people who don't want to smog up their outdoors.
