The financial assets of Tim Hanretty, the former superintendent of the Portola Valley School District who faces six felony charges of embezzlement from the district, have been frozen by the court.
The action was taken in San Mateo County Superior Court on Monday, June 25, at the request of the District Attorney's Office.
Mr. Hanretty pleaded not guilty on June 19 to charges alleging that he stole nearly $101,000 of the district's funds to pay for a construction project at his Woodside home during his tenure as superintendent. He remains out of custody after posting bail.
A July 18 court review of his case is scheduled, and his preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 16.
In April, Mr. Hanretty was charged with three felony counts of misappropriation of public funds stemming from his tenure as financial officer of the Woodside Elementary School District. Both cases will be heard in court together, according to Karen Guidotti, chief deputy district attorney. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
