Menlo Park: Alleged vandals caught in the act
Police arrest three for smashing windshields and blowing up mailboxes

A daylong spree of smashing car windows in Menlo Park came to an abrupt end when police responded to a call of vandalism in progress on Monday night (June 25).
At the scene: A red Ford 2002 pickup truck like the one spotted at the scenes of earlier crimes, and two suspects. A third suspect turned up during the course of the investigation, Menlo Park police said.
Police spokeswoman Nicole Acker said investigators are still figuring out whether the trio carried out all the recent attacks on inanimate objects in Menlo Park: Eight shattered car windows on Monday alone by BB gun; another five windshields broken last week; and four mailboxes blown up or beaten during the past two weeks.
One mailbox belonged to the new Menlo Park home of Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, sources said. The firecracker not only destroyed the box, but also the mail, leading some to wonder whether the crime could be charged as a federal offense.

Ryan Anthony Mattei, 18, was arrested around 9 p.m., then released pending further investigation. Police said his two companions, a 13-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, were taken into custody and then released to their parents after admitting to several incidents of vandalism.

restitution and them some, maybe they will catch on that non-social behavior is the thing
of the past.

This is the second time for us and I am sick of it. Shows Menlo Park in a great light, right? The kids should have to pay for it all, thousands of $. If they don't have the $ then lock them up for awhile. There needs to be consequences.

Posted by BlametheParentsANDtheirKids, a resident of the Menlo Park: Stanford Weekend Acres neighborhood, on Jun 28, 2012 at 4:30 am I don't care if the "kids" were bored, spoiled, angry, or just plain stupid, but they must be held accountable, and I do care that they have parents somewhere who must now know their offspring are accused of senseless acts of destruction upon other people's property that could have ended up causing serious injury to the victims or bystanders. Planned or not, happy about it or not, if you have a child, it's actions are YOUR responsibility period. You signed up for 18 years of parenthood, and what your child does or does not learn from watching and listening to you, YOU as the parent own the consequences of even if under the law the child receives some sort of punishment for it. It's high time our society starts taking parenting much more seriously. Our society doesn't recognize good parenting as having the same value as a good CEO, and yet which really benefits society more? A good CEO or a good citizen? What does society have more of? Which make the greater impact on our world as a whole?

I hope that these punks are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. These weren't just harmless teenage pranks.
