Tonight: Woodside may hike building fees

Bookmark and Share
The Woodside Town Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday, July 24, on a staff proposal to recover more of the town's costs for reviewing proposed remodeling and building projects.

The council meets at 7:30 p.m. in Independence Hall at 2955 Woodside Road in the town center complex at the corner of Whiskey Hill and Woodside roads.

Based on a year-long analysis by staff and at the council's direction, the proposal would charge building permit applicants according to the cost of the service, instead of charging a flat fee. Among those services: conditional use permits, extensions on development permits, variances, and analysis of significant projects by the Architectural and Site Review Board.

The year-long analysis of five projects and 10 fees showed that the town recovered only 40 percent of its costs, according to the report.

The introduction to the town's annual budget says services that "should be self-supporting" are "development services activities, recreation, maintenance and assessment districts, and enterprise funds."
