Sunday: Tour de Peninsula traffic disruption

With 1,500 riders expected Sunday, Aug. 5, for the Tour de Peninsula bicycle ride, there will be traffic disruption on Peninsula roads.

Congestion can be expected along the entire route, including: Third Avenue in San Mateo, Crystal Springs Road, Canada Road, Kings Mountain Road, Skyline, Old La Honda Road west of Skyline, Woodside Road, Polhemus Road, Millbrae Avenue, as well as Airport and Bayshore Boulevard along the Bay.

Motorists are asked to be on the lookout for cyclists, some of whom will be relatively inexperienced.

The following delays or closures can be expected.

Road or trail closures
* Canada Road between Highway 92 and Filoli will close at 6 a.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m. closure for Bicycle Sunday
* Sawyer Camp Trail will be closed to all but ride participants until noon
* Crystal Springs Road in Hillsborough will be closed between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Congestion and lane closures
* Congestion and lane closure on Third Avenue in San Mateo between 7 & 9:30 a.m.
* Intermittent 101 off and on-ramp closures at Third Avenue in San Mateo between 7 & 9:30 a.m.
* Congestion in Woodside and on Kings Mountain Road between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
* Lane closure on Milbrae Avenue from El Camino to Bayshore

About the tour
A ride dating back to 1991, the main purpose of the Tour de Peninsula has become to raise funds for the San Mateo County Parks Foundation and Bicycle Sunday -- car-free biking on Canada Road.
