Two more file papers in Atherton council race

Bookmark and Share
Denise Kupperman and Cary Wiest have filed candidacy papers in the race for two Atherton City Council seats, bringing the number of candidates up to four.

One-term incumbent Elizabeth Lewis and Greg Conlon, who has served on a number of town advisory committees, filed papers earlier.

Candidates have until tomorrow, Aug. 10, to turn in papers unless three-term incumbent Kathy McKeithen chooses not to run; if that happens, the deadline is extended to Aug. 15.

Tom Croft, Bob Roeser, and Jo-Ann Sockolov have also taken out papers, but Theresa DellaSanta, the city clerk and interim city manager, said this morning (Aug. 10) that all three have indicated to her that they won't be filing their papers.

Mr. Wiest was one of four candidates for three seats on the council in 2010. In that race, incumbents Jerry Carlson and Jim Dobbie retained their seats, and Bill Widmer, now the mayor, was elected to his first term.

Ms. Kupperman is the chair of the town's Library Building Steering Committee and was instrumental in organizing community meetings and workshops on the town's plan to build a new library in Holbrook-Palmer Park. She has served on a number of other citizen committees in town.
