Tonight: Woodside meeting on wildfire danger

Bookmark and Share
Yard signs with warning messages on days when wildfire is a particular danger will be appearing soon in front yards in Portola Valley, Woodside and nearby unincorporated communities.

With fire season under way, volunteers from CERPP (Citizens' Emergency Response and Preparedness Program) are hosting a meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Fire Station 19 at 4091 Jefferson Street in Redwood City to explain how residents in these communities can participate.

The "Be Ready Today WFPD" campaign is seeking residents who live in the Woodside Fire Protection District to post signs in their yards on days when the U.S. National Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning or Fire Weather Watch.

Such warnings indicate a "high fire danger with increased probability of a quickly spreading vegetation fire in the area within 12 to 24 hours," according to a CERPP statement.

On such days, CERPP will ask participants to post the warning sign so that it is visible to passersby, and keep it posted until notified that the dangerous weather conditions have passed. The Weather Service considers humidity, air temperature and wind in making its determinations, CERPP said.
