Portola Valley: Eight tame rabbits rescued

Bookmark and Share
This is an update to a previous story.

Volunteers have captured eight of the tame rabbits that someone released into the Portola Valley woods sometime over the past two days, the Almanac has learned.

About eight rabbits remain to be captured, while volunteers have found homes for three of the captured rabbits and possible homes for two to four more, volunteers say.

Someone let the rabbits go in the woods at the upper end of Alpine Road, perhaps on Monday, Aug. 13.

Ron Ramies, who owns Portola Valley Fuel auto repair and gas station, told the Almanac that a customer told him that 15 rabbits had been released.

Volunteers described the rabbits as playful and approachable.

Interested Portola Valley residents should log on to the community forum, called PV Forum, for more information and to get involved. Rescuers are asking for traps that don't injure the animal.

In an interview, Mark Macy of The Pet Place in Menlo Park recommended people interested in making a home for one of these rabbits contact Lisa Rockwell of Save-a-Bunny at 465-7679.

Yikes Bunnies loose! Hope they are healthy and are checked before adopting.
