Saturday: Jazz at Lutticken's
|
Barbara Ann Barnett and Jazzum will play from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Lutticken's After 5, located at 3525 Alameda de las Pulgas in West Menlo Park.
Jazzum, characterized as "hot jazz from an earlier era," is a quintet consisting of piano, bass, trumpet, clarinet/sax and singer.
Ms. Barnett, who identifies herself as the band's "canary," says "trad jazz is hot jazz, today's renderings being loosely based mostly on the early work of Louis Armstrong and many, many other giants from the 20s, 30s and 40s. From its inception, trad jazz has been dance music, so I'm hoping there will be dancing in the streets."
Lutticken's will feature music by local groups on Saturday nights, on occasion, throughout the fall, says Judy Congdon, who is in charge of booking. There is no cover charge and reservations are not needed.
