Among the issues set for discussion by the Woodside Town Council on Tuesday, Sept. 25, are its obligations in meeting state mandates that require cities and towns to plan for housing affordable to people of moderate and low incomes.
The council meets at 7:30 p.m. at Independence Hall near the corner of Woodside and Whiskey Hill roads.
In San Mateo County, a moderate income is around $86,500 for an individual and $123,600 for a family of four, according to the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
Cities and towns can meet a portion of their affordable housing quotas with second units (cottages) on parcels zoned for single-family homes, but zoning for multi-family housing is a state requirement. Such zoning is scarce in Woodside, but there are opportunities on the campus of Canada Community College.
The town used an apartment building on the Canada campus to meet some of its obligations in the past and could explore building there again to meet future obligations, according to a staff report.
Also on the agenda: potential amendments to regulations on nonconforming structures and lots, including the process for changing the use of such structures.
