The Menlo College women's volleyball team won twice over the weekend, extending its winning streak to four matches.

The Lady Oaks recovered from a first set loss to beat Simpson University, 16-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-17, on Friday and then swept Pacific Union, 25-20, 25-16, 25-15, on Saturday.

Menlo (3-0, 7-6) owns a half-game lead over William Jessup (2-0, 4-17) for the Cal Pac Conference lead.

"It was one of those going back to the drawing board kind of matches," Menlo's Courtney Calicdan said of Friday's win. "We just decided to shake the first game off. There were some early jitters, which our team has a tendency to have, but we knew we had to just go back to the basics."

Calicdan had 16 kills and 16 digs to lead the Lady Oaks, who host Mills College on Friday at 7 p.m. Nicole Yap added 14 kills on a .375 hitting percentage and 13 digs, while Camille Miller had 10 kills.

"I would have loved to come out and take the first set, but I knew we could play better," Menlo coach Daniel Rasay said. "We just needed to focus more on what are strengths are, and that's passing and serving. When we pass well we can run our offense, and when we serve well it gets them out of theirs. After we did that we starting rolling on offense, and challenging them on defense."

Angie Larsen had 30 assists and 10 digs, while Mika Mendoza added a match-high 27 digs. Menlo outhit Simpson, .283 to .095.

Women's soccer
