Woman rescued from creek after 40-foot fall
Woman, 56, lifted from dry creek using 'stokes basket'
|
Firefighters from Palo Alto and Menlo Park worked together Wednesday evening, Oct. 3, to rescue a 56-year-old woman who had fallen 40 feet into a dry creek, according to Palo Alto Fire Battalion Chief Chris Woodard.
The Menlo Park Fire Protection District requested assistance from the Palo Alto Fire Department after receiving a call that a person had fallen into the dry creek between Stanford West and the Oak Creek Apartments at approximately 6 p.m., Woodard stated in a press release.
The woman had fallen from the Palo Alto side and was suffering from "bilateral wrist and right leg pain with a possible loss of consciousness," Woodard stated.
The woman was "packaged in full C-spine precautions" and lifted out of the creek using a "stokes basket," according to Woodard. She was then taken to Stanford University Hospital and was alert and responsive. The rescue effort lasted approximately 20 to 30 minutes, Woodard stated.— Tyler Hanley Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
