'Burn Relay' fundraiser heads up Peninsula
Convoy of fire trucks makes stop at Palo Alto City Hall
|
A convoy of new and antique fire trucks and other emergency vehicles is making its way up the Peninsula to San Francisco today to raise money for burn victims.
The 19th Annual Peninsula Firefighters Burn Relay started at Moffett Field at about 8 a.m. and will travel nearly 40 miles north, ending at the San Francisco Fire Department training center at 19th and Folsom streets at about 5 p.m., according to organizers.
Firefighters will be making 16 stops at fire stations and city buildings along the relay route, collecting donations to raise money for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. The Burn Foundation helps rehabilitate burn victims and provides funds for an annual summer camp for child burn victims called Champ Camp.
Among the stops along the relay route are Palo Alto City Hall at 9:15 a.m., a lunch stop at Foster City Fire Station No. 28, and an ice cream break at Colma Fire Station No. 85 at 50 Reiner St. at about 4:10 p.m.
More information on the route can be obtained by calling AARBF development coordinator Evan Scher at 614-537-8332.— Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
