Today: Woodside's Day of the Horse

More than 300 riders are expected to dress in Arthurian costumes for this year's Day of the Horse on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Woodside.

Now in its eighth year, Day of the Horse will have two components: a trail ride and a horse fair. The trail ride attracts riders who will walk the town trails dressed in "Camelot" costume.

The horse fair, located near Woodside Town Hall, is expected to draw more than 1,500 people to its free equestrian activities, which include pony rides, demonstrations, and rides on the Wells Fargo Stagecoach. There will be food booths and live music.

Day of the Horse is sponsored by the Woodside-area Horse Owners Association. The association says more than $85,000 raised by the event has been gifted to Woodside-area programs, including the Folger Stable Renovation in Wunderlich County Park, trail development and maintenance in town, county parks, the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, regional equestrian activities for children, and large animal rescue.

The Woodside Vaulters equestrian vaulting club booth is one of many attractions at Woodside's Day of the Horse.

Look for demonstrations of vaulting...gymnastics on a moving horse...or sign up for a trial class to try vaulting, for boys and girl: Tiny Tots (ages 3-6), Beginning Trot (ages 5-14) or Novice Canter (experienced riders, ages 11-16).
